Quiénes somos
The world is changing, and at BHP we are excited about the opportunity we have to play our part in this change. We are a world-leading resources company that extracts and processes minerals, oil and gas, the products of which are sold and distributed worldwide. With more than 62,000 employees and contractors, we know it’s our people that play a key – más... part in making this happen. We also recognise the enormous potential that an inclusive and diverse workplace can bring, and we are committed to creating opportunities and cultivating an ongoing culture of respect and change for everyone.

In 2016, BHP set an ambition target and pledged to increase the number of female employees by 3% every year to deliver a 50% female workforce by 2025. Our CEO Andrew McKenzie promised to ‘remove the unconscious bias that women have been disadvantaged by for a very long time in a male-dominated environment’ and since then, our overall female representation has increased to over 20 per cent.

A significant achievement when you consider that not long ago, few could imagine a future where the prevalence of women in the mining industry was normal, even routine. While this is positive progress, we know we still have a long way to go to, and we won't stop.

Gender balance over time is achievable, it's certainly beneficial, and it’s an absolute imperative for workplaces in the 21st Century.

- Andrew McKenzie, CEO

We're changing things up by asking everyone what their ‘flex’ looks like so we can create new definitions of flexibility where traditionally there has been none. We’ve found this to be the single biggest driver in helping us to promote greater workforce diversity – and that’s why it continues to be a key focus for BHP.

We love new opinions and innovative ideas. It's the unique experiences and perspectives of our teams that will lead us into the future we're trying to create. We have tremendously talented people at BHP, but our teams are always looking for smarter and more agile ways of doing things to get there faster. Not to mention we have some great leaders here focused on supporting our next great leaders.

We want to make a difference, not just for our organisation, but for society at large. it’s about driving change at a practical, operational level. For women, that might mean having female toilets underground at mining sites or having available personal protective equipment that fits them. Or being aware of unconscious bias, such as assuming a female executive wouldn’t take an international posting because she has young children.

- Athalie Williams, President Human Resources

The diversity and impact of our global business, the products, the environments, the communities, brings with it equally diverse and interesting challenges, exposure, career mobility and future career opportunities.

The world needs brave people who think creatively and bring the best of themselves to what they do. People who think big help deliver innovative projects that shape how we balance the needs of communities with the welfare of our planet.

Because we want to change the world for the better for, well…. everyone.
